The seven color image above shows a classified image of a small Bahia field in South Alabama. The image shows seven relative differences in vegetation. The grower knew he had some weaker areas in the field, but wanted to locate them more precisely in the field. Secondly, he wanted to know if there were any spots in the field he could not see in the field.
To the grower's surprise the image indicated several locations in the field where the grass was weaker compared to the rest of the field. Many of those areas were not visible by eye.
The weaker areas were areas where the grower fed his cows round bales. The high traffic of the cows have negatively influenced the Bahia grass in those areas. The knowledge he has gained with this image has helped this grower to pay more attention to these areas to increase the productivity of the field.
